We head to Pokhara, the entry point for all trekkers into the Annapurna mountain range. It's a tourist town with bars, trekking shops and internet cafes. We stay at Fishtail Lodge, a hotel on the shores of Lake Phewa. It's former guests include Prince Charles.
Dave is still suffering from a dodgy stomach. He blames India!
We meet our guide Yogesh and sherpas Hari and Ravi. A likable bunch.
We take a taxi to Nyapul and then begin the long walk into the mountains. We make it to lunchtime before Dave starts to complain of feeling ill. We push on up the hill before constantly stopping for toilet beaks. The locals squat toilets haven't seen anything like it before. Then the situation takes aturn for the worse, Dave starts being sick. We make the deision to head back down to Nyapul to see the local doctor. He's a friendly chap who says that Daves blood pressure is low and needs to go to the hospital in Pokhara
So it's into a 1970's Toyota Corolla taxi, all 5 of us and our bags before what Suzi described as the scariest drive so far back to Pokhara. Dave spends the journey with his eyes shut and swearing at every turn.
At the hospital we are seen by a local doctor who says that Daves picked up a bacterial infection from India and requires a few day rest. He prescribes the entire pharmacy to Dave, who doesn't question what he's taking.
A couple of days rest and all the drugs that India makes seems to be enough. Dave makes a full recovery. Only the upside down toilet seat in the cheap hotel leaves a lasting impression on us!
