You can finally read our first blog. If this works it's more by
accident than computer skill! We are here in India. It's everything
that you think it is and then some more. Delhi was manic. The busiest
most overcrowded place we've ever been. The noise is deafening and the
traffic is suicidal. The taxi drivers should be on the grid of a
Formula 1 race. Lewis will have met his match for overtaking. Walking
around Delhi you can see the abject poverty that the majority of the
people live in. There are thousands of people living at the side of the
road, begging and scrapping a living from what is around them. It is
humbling and makes you think about what we take for granted. Don't
worry, we haven't turned all hippy after 5 days!

From Delhi we caught the train to Agra and saw  Agra Fort. It is a
semi-circular palace made from red stone  2 1/2 km in
circumference. Writing that size doesn't do the scale of the place
justice. It is huge and excessively opulent.

Then for one of the seven wonders of the man-made world, the Taj Mahal.
Seeing pictures of it doesn't show it in all of its natural majesty. It
is simply breathtaking. It has to be near the top of
places-to-see-before-you-die.

Then from Agra we went economy for the 4 hour train ride to Orchha. The
scenery and sights made the trip go quicker than we thought. Orchha is
famous for it's number and sheer quality of Hindu temples. These rival
the Islamic Fort at Agra for scale and ornate architecture. You become
blase about them after a while but then you see a view from them that
brings back the feeling of awe. We attended one of the temples during
an evening festival and the colours and incense made it a great new
experience. The people of India are so friendly and helpful.

Their internet access and reliabilty is not of  the same level.

We are now about to catch a sleeper train to Varanassi and a boat ride
along the Ganges.  Will hopefully let you all know how it went
soon.
