Our first day in Simon's Town

We decided to walk to Boulders Beach to see the African penguin colony. The African penguins are really cute and quite small. Michael (dad) got some great photos before we were invaded by a load of Japanese tourists.
When we got back to the hotel, the hostess came rushing to tell us that the maid had a real fright rushing out of our room saying that a baboon had got into the room (they are a real nuisance here) but actually it was only 'Daveed' my baboon we bought from Sanbona - luckily she saw the funny side and now I have bought a snake for my window, no don't ask that's another story!
Once we returned back to the hotel, we had a swim in the little pool for our use. Thought you might like to see some photos of it, bearing in mind the boutique hotel is called The Boat House.
We went to a restaurant above what resembled an old fashioned English pub called the Two and Sixpence. The access to the restaurant was via a staircase at the back of the bar. The meal was quite basic after all the high living we have had. However, the company was very good. We met an ITV crew member who had come to interview members of The Discovery a tall ship who has both able and disabled crew members who were due to dock in Simon's Town earlier in the week and had been somewhat delayed. We also met a couple from Hampshire who were having a couple of months break away from the winter weather. As we finished our meal, the waitress said that the mountain overlooking the bay was on fire and the wind was just fanning the flames. We were horrified to see the mountain at the back of the hotel was well alight. In fact it came so close that we made contingency plans as to what we needed to make a quick get a way. However, the weather was on our side as it rained during the night ( although there was absolutely no sign of rain during the day ) and it doused the flames
