2/21 Parati, Brazil
Miles travelled: 48358
We've traded in our (little) Spanish knowledge for (even less) Portugese. Some words are very similar, others are completely different. A little pointing and gesturing goes a long way, however.
Parati is a charming beach community on the Atlantic coast, and we're here for 3 days to relax and get ready for Rio. The setting is great -- the town is set at the tip of a large Bay dotted with islands and other little communities. We took a daylong boat trip to various points in the Bay and swam, sat on the beach, and enjoyed the ride on a wooden vessel. At night, there are lots of shops and restaurants to check out, and we tried out a traditional Portugese/Brazilian seafood stew -- delicious!!
It's warmed up considerably as we've travelled north, now in the mid-90s with pretty high humidity. Quite a difference from just a few weeks ago when we were wearing gloves and walking on a glacier and a snow-covered volcano.
