1/20 Hwy 40 at Rio Ecker, Argentina

Miles travelled: 43346

We are in the midst of 3 long drive days to progress southward toward the main mountain national parks of Argentina and Chile. Along the way, we camped at a scenic lakeside location and along a river in the middle of dry desert-like scrub. In Los Alceres, it got pretty cold -- 40 degrees at breakfast, so probably in the mid-30s overnight. Not the most fun when you're in a tent, the wind is blowing, and it's also raining. But, there are no Sheratons around here to upgrade to. We also managed to get stuck in the mud, and despite pushing and digging, couldn't get the truck out. Fortunately, our guide was able to find a construction crew nearby, so a road grader came to our rescue. However, that 2-hour delay plus a very long journey meant we had to skip dinner and go straight to sleep upon arriving at the next camp at 1am.
