After another full-day drive, we have arrived at the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou (wah-ga-DOO-goo). Great name, isn't it? After getting lost (as usual) we made it to the "OK Inn" which is conveniently located at the back of a big-rig truck park. We upgraded to a room, and it was definitely luxury compared to what we've been having -- we get a bathroom with a shower and "sit" toilet, along with A/C and CNN on TV. We applied for Ghana visas, so hopefully we can pick up passports and be on our way to Ghana in the morning.
It's Thanksgiving Day and no turkey in sight. :-( But hopefully we'll have at least a decent meal tonight -- BF steaks are supposed to be pretty good.
UPDATE -- we DID have Thanksgiving dinner! One of the other Americans on the trip found out that the US Embassy had a Thanksgiving dinner available, so we went over at 5 pm to their Rec Center, where we got a good ol' American meal with chicken (no turkey, unfortunately), mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, and pumpkin pie. Then we went over to the Ambassador's residence for a potluck dessert. It was neat to meet some of the Embassy staff and other ex-pats who work for the World Bank, etc. The residence had a REAL lawn with grass, nice furniture, and we had tea on official gold-rimmed Embassy china. So, a most unusual Thanksgiving.
