What a day. Yesterday we left Cairo and drove *under* the Suez Canal to the Sinai peninsula. This dry desert land is definitely not flat. Huge multi-colored mountains and rocks make up the rugged landscape. We stayed at a hotel near St. Catherine's monastery at the foot of Mt Sinai.

Then, wake-up call on Thursday was 2am to begin the hike up Mt. Sinai. We're in Egypt, but we have 4 layers on, fleece jacket, ski cap, and gloves! We follow a camel trail up the mountain, walking, although it seems that every 50 feet someone is asking "Camel? Camel?", offering a ride up the mountain. 3 cold hours later and after a 2700 vertical foot climb, we've arrived at the top in time for sunrise. It's not exactly tranquil up there, as a few hundred people are there with us and the locals keep trying to sell things and tour guides try to keep track of their groups. Nevertheless, it is still a moving experience, as we remember God appearing to Moses and giving the Ten Commandments here. The pink glow of dawn washes over the mountains around us, reminding us of God's continuing faithfulness every day. Then we hear some people singing the hymn "Holy Holy Holy" in Chinese! Another reminder of God's faithfulness & presence in the Church worldwide.
