Today was pretty much like yesterday. Another bright, sunny day; more Halloween displays; more pumpkins; lots of different shades of autumn leaves which at a couple of high elevations in the road we could see for miles and miles; and more small towns with occasional glimpses of the lake. That is until we reached Cape Vincent, where the shore of the Canadian mainland is only about 10 miles away, and Wolfe Island which is Canadian territory is less than 2 miles away. This is also where the St. Lawrence river meets Lake Ontario and there are many small islands here which are known as the Thousand Islands.

Along this stretch of shoreline the road is much closer to the river, so we had good views of Canada almost all of the way to our campground which was just 25 miles further along. Kring Point State Park is situated right on the riverbank and we selected a nice pitch from where we had a nice view of the water without paying for a "Prime Waterfront" pitch. All around the campground there are outcrops of smooth glacial rock, evidence of the forces that created this whole area.

After dinner we witnessed a really spectacular sunset as the sun went down on the other side of the river over Canada. The sky was just aglow, all red and orange. After a few photos which really didn't do it justice, we headed for the showers. As we haven't had a problem with cleanliness in New York parks so far, we didn't think to check them earlier. BIG mistake. Not brilliantly clean, but so long as they're not completely minging you can block that out if the water is nice and hot. But it was freezing. No hint of any heat whatsoever. Neil gritted his teeth and went for it, but Mel went back to the bus and boiled a kettle!
