Where I stayed
East Branch Lake Campground, Glen Hazel, Pennsylvania

In light of the "loaded" camping fees in Pennsylvania and the fact that it was Saturday, we decided to make a concerted effort to cover as much ground as possible today. The morning had begun grey and chilly. It got greyer and greyer until finally around 10.30 it began to rain. Absolutely filthy, miserable weather!
It gradually improved as the morning went on and we travelled further north, and eventually the clouds thinned and the sun came out early afternoon.
For pretty much the whole journey our route took us through heavily wooded areas. The autumn colours are becoming much more noticeable with lots of red and gold tones starting to show. To us, fall in Pennsylvania seems pretty stunning, so what is Maine going to be like?
We arrived at East Branch Lake Campground around 3pm to discover that it wasn't a state park campground but an Army Corps Of Engineers one. The fees were much more reasonable at $15, especially as we had the option of a non-electric pitch.
Once we had got parked up and settled in, we took a walk around the park and down to the lake. We were quite shocked to see that the water level was incredibly low, exposing some of the trunks that must have been cut down when the valley was flooded to form the lake, and also leaving the banks of the lake littered with boat pontoons.
On the way back to our pitch we discovered from one of the notice boards that the water level of the lake had actually been lowered intentionally whilst the dam is inspected due to seepage concerns.
As we arrived back at the bus a couple who were camped opposite in their RV asked if they could take a look at the bus. We spent 15 minutes or so chatting to Dave & Debbie before diving into the showers before it turned really chilly. We are very pleased to report that unlike most of the Army Corps of Engineers sites that we have stayed at, this one was particularly well cared for and the showers were both clean and hot.
Debbie and Dave had invited us to sit around their campfire after dinner but once we had eaten we didn't want to let out the heat that we had generated from cooking by having to open the doors. And so we got tucked up in bed with an extra blanket as it really was rather cold, just as forecasted.
