We decided to extend our stay by another couple of nights and so had to pack up the bus and go find a local supermarket. The actual town of Flagler Beach is about 3 miles up the coast from the campground, and we found a Food Lion there just the other side of the bridge over the intracoastal waterway.
After lunch it was our now daily ritual of reading the newspaper and Mel doing the Sudoku. We learned that a 12 year old autistic boy and his father had been swept out to sea on Saturday evening just down the coast from here. Amazingly they were rescued on Sunday morning after spending all night out at sea, about 8 miles out, and after getting separated late Saturday night too. The father was found around 7.30 am after 12 hours adrift and the boy about 2 hours later. The authorities said it was truly a miracle that they were found alive and safe after such a long time especially given the large number of sharks out there!!!!
We figured if they could survive all the way out there for so long and not get bitten, then we would surely be safe in the shallows and so went for a swim

Lizard
. Unfortunately Mel was attacked, not by a shark but a jellyfish. Thankfully it was only a small one and it just brushed against her, so the sting wasn't too big and the discomfort didn't last for very long. Miles travelled: 11
