While we were packing up this morning, a guy wandered across on his way back from the shower block and asked the usual question, "What year is your bus?". The guy's name was Buddy and we had quite a long conversation with him about all sorts of things, including a recommendation for a campground near Miami and the fact that he has an original Westfalia awning which he would sell to us if we were interested. He lives further north so we think we will be paying him a visit when we get into his neighbourhood. He also told us that the site we are booked into for tomorrow night wasn't open when he tried there yesterday. Interesting.

We left the site late morning and headed south through the Keys. The weather was beautiful and the water looked gorgeous shades of blue and turquoise. As we passed through Long Key we stopped at the State Park to make sure it was open. They told us that they had been closed as "Fay" had caused a bit of a mess, but that it should be all cleaned up for our arrival tomorrow Florida Keys 1

. With that sorted we carried on south, all the way down to Key West, arriving there mid afternoon.

We visited the "Southernmost Point In The Continental USA", taking in the southernmost house, southernmost hotel, etc, etc. Then we just wandered around, passing Hemingway's house and the lighthouse and just generally taking in the place. And then in an attempt to find something very particular that Mel wanted to buy for her Mum, we spent two hours going in every gift shop on the island, to find that the thing hadn't even been made yet. An enterprising idea for the future maybe?!

We left Key West around 6 pm and took a leisurely drive the 35 miles or so back up to Bahia Honda State Park. There are two sides to the campground, one on the Atlantic and the other where we were, on the Gulf, which meant we had an amazing view of a beautiful sunset.
