We were up early in order to get packed up and off the site at a reasonable time. Then it was into town for a couple of hours to get groceries and take care of a spot of business.

We finally hit the road around 1 pm and headed north on Highway 89 until it became confusing and we think became Highway 28. We found ourselves a shady spot in a town called Gunnison to have our lunch, a very sorry looking place, full of failed businesses. Unfortunately our shady spot was directly opposite a drive-up snack bar and the ice-cream sundaes proved too much of a temptation. We are going to be huge! Neil had a banana sundae and Mel had a chocolate one and you should have seen the size of them!

All we really wanted to do now was have a siesta, especially as it was so hot, but the road was calling. The scenery was much the same as it had been when we were last on the road a couple of days ago, the road winding along the valley floor with mountains on either side BIG Ice Cream Sundaes

. Just over an hour further north we arrived in Mapleton and headed into the hills to find the campsite we had selected for tonight. After several miles drag uphill we arrived at the site to find it full. So on to the next town of Springville and the Cherry Campground in the Uinta National Forest. It's a small site with basic facilities but well run by the hosts and fairly peaceful.

We're both a bit "done-in" tonight, so after a fairly early dinner, it's washes and an episode of "24" for us before a reasonably early night.

As there's not a lot to report today, we'll share another "oddity" with you. A sign that we actually saw in California many times - "Speed Enforced By Aircraft", quite often in the most remote places. How? Why? Surely it can't be cheap to have an aircraft patrolling the traffic, especially on the less used roads. Odd, very odd.
