Spent the day exploring Vegas, starting with a ride on the roller coaster that runs around and through the hotel New York, New York. Quite an experience and good views of "The Strip" although Mel will have bruised shins tomorrow!
Wandered through several of the hotels which are the size of small towns rather than hotels, and also in fact are more like tourist attractions than what is outside of them. From animatronic fountains to lions in glass enclosed habitats, Vegas has everything from the weird to the wonderful. As we've said before Americans do everything BIG, and Vegas is the epitome of this.
After several hours of wandering we returned to the hotel to give our feet and our senses a break before going back out later in the evening. Now despite what you hear about Vegas being a 24 hour city we can tell you that it's not
By now it was the early hours and the streets were full of the less desirable kind of people. Vegas really is a very seedy place late at night. We were very glad to get back to our room.

! As we had eaten at weird times throughout the day we didn't want our dinner until quite late, and as we particularly fancied a Chinese we headed for the first one that we had seen earlier to find it closed. So, not recalling just how long the strip was we set off for another place further along, in fact, make that practically the other end of The Strip. After a very long walk we found that too had closed for the evening and so had to settle for a McDonalds!By now it was the early hours and the streets were full of the less desirable kind of people. Vegas really is a very seedy place late at night. We were very glad to get back to our room.
