Where I stayed
After breakfast we headed down into Yosemite Valley. This is the main tourist centre of the park and therefore was very busy, especially as it was a Sunday.
On the way down into the valley we passed amazing waterfalls and the scenery is just breathtaking. Once in the valley we checked out the visitor centre and then took a short walk to the Lower Yosemite Falls. Absolutely magnificent!
After a spot of lunch we jumped on the shuttle bus and took a trip around the valley, getting off at the Mirror Lake trail head. We took the trail up to the Lake and then back along the base of the granite cliffs to the visitor centre, about a 5 mile steady hike.
As there are no showers at the camp ground we were going to get one at the "Housekeeping Camp" in the valley, but as they wanted $5 each, on top of our park entrance fee and our camp-ground fee, we decided that someone was taking the you-know-what and decided to use the wet flannel and soap method
Neil made us a nice camp fire to have our dinner by and we sat and had a few drinks afterwards while the wood burned out. Mel's drink tonight was a very nice bottle of red we found for $1.99. A Californian Syrah from Fox Brook vineyard funnily enough. They have a range of reds, whites and a rose and we stocked up on one of each to try them out. We'll definitely get this one again, in fact we'll probably get a case of it before we leave California!
