We were up and out for 8am to walk to "Food 4 Less" for cleaning products. Back at the motel for 9am, we waited for a call from Chris to say he was on his way. He eventually called around 10am to say he wouldn't be collecting us after all, as we weren't insured to be at the workshop. We offered to sign a disclaimer in case of accidents but to no avail. Knowing that there was no way he would get everything done in a day by himself, we resigned ourselves to another night in the motel. The rest of the day was spent at the mall and big stores getting our last few bits of camping equipment.
As there isn't much else to report, we'll take this opportunity to share a few "wrongs" with you. Firstly, the bus that advertises that it is "Powered By Clean Natural Gas", have Americans discovered a different natural gas to the rest of us, one that doesn't produce greenhouse gases when it's burned? Secondly, drive through cash machines! Even if the regular walk-up cash point is unoccupied, they would rather wait in a line of cars (burning unnecessary fuel) to use the drive through than park up and walk the few yards. Then there is the small matter of there being no annual Vehicle Road-Worthiness Test like a British MOT or a Spanish ITV, so consequently you could be driving round in any old death trap. And finally, whilst it is a legal requirement to have Motor Insurance in California, in a lot of states it isn't. So beware on the highways of America. The car coming towards you could either hit you due to its faulty, unchecked brakes, or hit you with good brakes but not be insured!
