Well the day got off to a good start. We received a call from Jenna first thing to say the bus would be ready for collection at 4pm! Neil spent the morning researching our route and places of interest on the internet and Mel did a spot of admin. We set off early afternoon to walk up to SDCVW stopping for lunch on the way.
We arrived at the entrance to the units where Chris has his workshop at four minutes to four. As we rounded the corner, Chris appeared in front of us driving our new, shiny bus. He waved at us, we waved back. And then..... he crashed it into the pick-up in front of him!!!!!! No we are NOT joking. We couldn't believe what we had just seen. There are no words to describe how we felt right then.
We left Chris to sort it out, after all at this point it's not officially ours. What followed was a very tense hour and a half until Chris returned and we saw the damage. It turned out he was on his way to get the bus "smog-checked" when we saw him leaving (and crashing), so he decided to just carry on and go get it done anyway.
The bus has had a spare wheel fitted onto the front and it was this that had taken the impact, making a nice dent in the front panel behind it. We're not sure who was most gutted, us or Chris. Apparently he has never crashed anything before in his life. Typical!!
After agreeing that the bus would be sent to the paint & body shop over the weekend for repairs, and that SDCVW would pay for our motel room until it was fixed, Jenna droppped us back at the motel.
Too devastated to even switch on the computer, let alone update the blog, we finished all the alcohol we had in the room then went round to 7/11 for more beer, more wine and a very large bowl of Nachos with all the trimmings to drown our sorrows!!!
