Day 9 - Don't Sue Me!
Not a very exciting day today. Spent the morning arranging Vehicle Insurance and the afternoon doing laundry. The whole concept of insurance over here is completely different to the UK. In the UK the emphasis is on protecting your vehicle and recovering your costs. Here it's all about having enough liability protection for when the other motorist/homeowner/victim sues you! Having discovered this we now understand a contradiction that we've witnessed over the last few days on foot. Despite the fact that Americans don't walk anywhere, the Pedestrian is King. Motorists are constantly stopping and waving us across the road in front of them and leaving plenty of room for us to do so. We now realise it's because they're paranoid that someone will throw themselves in front of their car and then claim against them! We've also discovered that whilst Vehicle Insurance is a legal requirement in California, that's not the case for every State!
Seen a bit more sunshine today and it's been quite warm, but the weather is still very unseasonal according to the locals. Apologies for the lack of photos over the last few days, but we're trying not to look like tourists as we're not in a tourist area.
Big day tomorrow (hopefully)- we're due to collect the bus!
