Today it's Bank Holiday Monday in the UK and Memorial Day here in the US, the equivalent of the UK's Remembrance Day, so it's a national holiday over here. Not that you would really notice. All of the restaurants and the large stores are open. However, the favourite American passtime on Memorial Day is a "cook-out" - a barbecue to you and I!
We've walked miles again today. Purchased a few more bits of camping equipment and a tool box to add to the collection of strange things in our motel room. Just to really freak the maid out, there's now a portable loo sat in one corner of the room.
On our travels today, we came face to face with the 64 oz "Double Gulp" drink which caused a few more wry smiles. We also passed a few more odd looking individuals on foot, giving strength to Elizabeth's statement that everyone on foot is considered a loon. Don't be concerned (Mum), when we say "odd" that's exactly what we mean. Just "odd," not threatening, menacing, or dangerous. Neil said this evening that he would like to think that they are just normal people with normal jobs living in normal houses. But he's really not convinced; neither of us is.
Dominating the news over here is the record number of tornadoes that have occurred so far this year, and in particular over this weekend. Just to put everyone's mind at rest, we're several states and hundreds of miles away from them and tornado season will be well and truly over by the time we get over there. There are also wild fires in Northern California, but again we are nowhere near them and will make sure we avoid the area. It's been mainly overcast again today, although it has been very warm and the sun did come out late afternoon. Unfortunately, it's still not warm enough to use the motel's pool. No doubt as soon as we get on the road and have no pool, the heat will kick in big style.
