Day 5 - Where Do Americans Buy Groceries?

The car went back today, so another early start to get our last few errands done. The weather today was the worst yet. On the way to San Diego Airport where the car needed to be dropped off, we called into IKEA, much to Mel's delight. It's the best value location we've found yet (and we've been round a few!). Basically if it's £2.99 in the UK, or €2.99 in Murcia, it's only $2.99 here, that's just £1.55!! Anyway, price comparisons aside, it was raining when we came out, big rain! And it was cold! Anyone here on just a 2 week holiday must be absolutely gutted.

Once the car was dropped off, it was a bus, a tram ride and then a 20 min walk back to the motel. The tram took us through some of the more "colourful" areas of San Diego. We had been concerned about stumbling into a bad area without realising it once our trip begins for real, but after what we saw today, you can be sure that bad areas are very easily spotted.

After a quick afternoon cuppa, a cake and a warm we donned our winter coats (yes it is that cold), and set off to look for another food store. Oh joy, it was raining again! No luck on the hunt for new supermarkets either, so another selection from Wal-Mart's limited shelves for dinner. Where do these people shop for food? Neil's convinced they just eat out all the time, and mainly burgers at that. A couple of interesting observations we made in Wal-Mart: they have strawberry flavoured apple juice - why? And they have Granny Smith flavoured apple sauce - poor Granny Smith!
