Today got off to an excellent start, except for the weather - still grey! First stop was the 7/11 convenience store near to the motel for breakfast tea and coffee. The assistant was your stereotypical big, jolly African-American "momma". The welcome she gave us, plus the fact we didn't feel the need for a translator was very refreshing. Full of caffeine and positive vibes we got back on the hunt for curtain fabric and another trip down to National City to the fabric warehouse we were at on Tuesday. Fabric purchase completed, more shopping for camping equipment and supplies. By late afternoon the grey skies gave way to rain. We consoled ourselves with a McFlurry and a Chocolate Sundae. The fact that everything is bigger over here isn't always a bad thing!
Thoroughly exhausted and in need of something a little lighter and healthier to eat, we decided to break out the camping stove and made dinner in the motel room. Just one slight hiccup, we don't seem able to find a proper food supermarket. There's Wal-Mart, owners of Asda, but we've been in 3 different ones now and in all of them the grocery section is miniscule. There's no fresh fruit or vegetables, the refrigerated section extends to milk and pizza, but that's it. No fresh meat either. And there don't appear to be any other food supermarkets, anywhere, and we've covered some miles and some shopping centres over the last few days. Weird!
