Mel's Birthday! Thank you to everyone for your lovely cards and gifts.
An early start for the birthday girl, awake at 6am! After card opening and breakfast, a quick internet search and a few phone calls to find another motel as this one didn't have availability after tonight. Back into the car with the 90 kgs of luggage and off to search for curtain fabric. Still overcast and rather grey outside, even a little bit of drizzle. What's going on? It never rains on Mel's birthday.
Except for the fact that it was Mel's birthday, today was not a good day, and by mid afternoon we were both ready to book our return flights. It started with more rude shop assistants interspersed with the locals making us feel that we were not speaking English! And the final straw came when our traveller's cheques were refused twice more. Fortunately there was a bank within stropping distance and this was our last hope. If they refused to cash the cheques we were on our way back. After checking and cross checking with supervisors, the cheques were finally cashed, but only after Mel had provided a thumb print on each one! We were also advised not to take the cash in notes bigger than $20, (the equivalent of £10) as they may not be accepted!!!! What kind of a crazy place have we come to?????????
After a few birthday drinks back at the motel, we went to a restaurant just around the corner for dinner. Mel chose it as they did baby back ribs. Things got off to a good start with good service, being able to be understood and a good standard of cleanliness (past Shackers will know where we're coming from on that one). And then the huge plates of food arrived....COLD! Not only were they taken away, the meals were completely re-made from scratch and then a waitress, waiter and the manager all came to check that everything was ok. Oh, and we got free desserts! In a way it was a positive thing, but on the other hand, it's all so very wasteful. Everything about this country is very wasteful.

Everything about this country is very wasteful.
And yet, you decided to take a vacation in 'this country'. Judging by your other posts, I think maybe you're looking for things to complain about.
