Quick stop in Dublin
Entry 2 of 112 | show all | print this entry |
Neil had wanted some nicotine gum, but as the shops at Heathrow didn't open til around 6.30 am, we figured we would have plenty of time to get it in Dublin anyway. Upon arrival in Dublin, we were again disappointed. Having arrived off a connecting flight, you go straight through security and into the departure lounge, on the duty free side. We found a pharmacy and asked for the gum, only to be told that "they couldn't sell it on that side of security". Why??? Directly opposite, you could buy enough tobacco to smoke yourself to death within the hour. But oh no, you can't buy nicotine gum, even though you're about to board a 12 hour non-smoking, trans-Atlantic flight! Things improved slightly as we made our way to the departure gate. We had to pass through US Customs & Border Control. After successfully passing the fingerprint scan, and correctly answering their 20 questions, we were granted access to the USA until the 17th of November. What followed was a relatively pain-free flight. A nice, clean, fairly new plane, with plenty of comfortable seats so we could stretch out, reasonable food and personal entertainment systems with individual, seat-back screens. You could even play games on them!
