As we approached LA, we were both over-awed and a little scared by the sheer scale of the place we were about to land in. Seeing very long, straight roads leading off into the desert, with no sign of where they arrived was mind-blowing. But we'll be OK. We'll just have to be extra sensible.
As we had hoped we passed through Immigration fairly effortlessly, with only one additional form to complete. The official was actually surprisingly friendly and helpful (unlike his American colleague in Dublin!) and we were processed in around 10-15 minutes. Upon exiting arrivals, the real fun began. Firstly, it was hot and we were wearing long trousers and transporting a LOT of luggage onto and off of the courtesy bus to the car rental office. Then we got the automatic car. So once Neil remembered that there was no clutch, we left the rental depot and hit the open road. Our motel was only 10 minutes drive away and after finding it with ease, we unloaded the car, turned on the air-con and the TV and collapsed!
