Calgary was originally supposed to be just the end of the drive through the Rockies where we got on the plane to Toronto. However we discovered that we were going to be there at the Calgary's high point of the year - Calgary Stampede! Billed as "the greatest outdoor show on earth" (Natasha of course, in true Aussie style claims it's merely a dot on the map compared to the Royal Easter Show in New South Wales!). It's part Rodeo, part fairground, part agricultural display, part country music festival and most of all a very good reason to spend 10 days in a stupor judging by a lot of the atttendees! Upon leaving the park at around 11.30 on Monday night and passing by the Drinking and Live Music marquee, Natasha was shocked to see one of the said attendees on the ground apprently being given, she thought, CPR. On closer inspection he was being sat on by 3 mounties while the 4th was trying to wrestle him into handcuffs. Now he knows how the poor steers that get roped, chucked on the floor and have their hooves tied as part of the Rodeo feel.
