Show trip route
Tuesday ended up being designated a Sleep Lots and Watch American Television day (which included watching Beetlejuice, hooray!). By the evening I was feeling slightly more rejuvenated and we went out for dinner at an Italian restaurant not far from Meg's and then Meg and I drove down to Santa Monica to go to the movies. We ended up watching The Libertine and since my views on THAT particular subject are well known (read: been going on about it for six months) I will leave it at that. And you know what? I saw the American version of Deal or No Deal. The host (who is bald, had to point that out) calls the banker to see what offer the banker is going to make...and the banker is sitting silhouetted in a little room above a big screen
I have a sneaking suspicion that if my family were on Deal or No Deal with me I would not have won thirty thousand dollars.
On Wednesday Meg dropped me off at The Grove for the morning and then in the afternoon I went to the Chinese Theatre to take photos of cement handprints, and compare shoe sizes with dead celebrities. I also randomly went on a stars house tour which was really fun. The driver was Australian and I think she might have been a ghostwriter for celebrities writing their autobiographies, because she said she'd worked with Bette Davis and another actress I can't remember. In any case, I understand why people would want to live in Bel Air - the houses were pretty nice. Thursday night Meg and I went for Indonesian food at a restaurant around the corner and the waitress started speaking to me in Indonesian because I was pronouncing the menu properly.
Yesterday in case you are one of the three people in the world I didn't mention it to I went to DISNEYLAND! Excited a little. It was heaps of fun, with personal highlights being the Indiana Jones ride (which I went on twice), the rollercoasters (especially Space Mountain - it's in complete darkness apart from millions of tiny little lights/stars), the little kid in the queue for Thunder Mountain who folded his map into shapes just for Meg's and my amusment, and the little girl who pulled a Gandalf in the exit of one of the rides (so she didn't actually bellow YOU SHALL NOT PASS at me, but it was funny anyway)
So that's my last few days in a nutshell. Today I'm washing and organising things for my trip up to San Francisco next week and booking the hostel for Mexico City the week after. Quite frankly Disneyland has taken it out of me. Tomorrow Meg and I are going down to San Diego to visit Meg's mum - and rumour has it we're going to the Outback Steakhouse for tea. It's an Australian theme restaurant - I saw an ad for it on Tuesday on TV and was ever so slightly amused. I'll get back to you all on that one.
