A bunch of old señors and señoras were milling around the quiet square downtown. Everyone was very friendly and relaxed. As a group we waited outside the museum in the sun for our guide, just talking amongst ourselves in our respective languages, some trying a language unfamiliar or everyone trying french together.
Eventually he showed up, a man who I think said he was originally from France but who married a Spanish woman and was expertly fluent in both languages! He was loud, which was good, in the streets and crowded halls of the museum, and to make sure all of us could hear him well enough.
The Casa-Museu Salvador Dali was one of my favourite things about this trip. Dali, being definitely one of my favourite artists in more ways than one!
If you ever find yourself with the chance to see this museum I have to strongly recommend it. My favourite piece? Hard to say, I loved it all; but I really like his various and random sketches in ink that hang all around the corridors. His art has a way of surprising you the second or third time you look at it with something that jumps out at you you hadn't noticed before! I could easily have spent a whole day there, and another day in the sunny and peaceful little town (though it must be a galère during tourist season) of Figueras.
And then, after a week packed full of new and wonderful things and time spent together, we were on the road back to our 'homes'. We had to say goodbye to people from other districts who we would likely never meet again, and then goodbye to those we wouldn't see again until April.
It was dark by the time the bus stopped to let our remaining group off at the station where we had started out at the beginning of the week. Jeane's host dad, Eric was there to take her, Diana, Carolina and I back to Grenoble. I was exhausted, a bit run down, but satiated with all the great new things I'd just experienced.
I know the bus trip of a lot of Europe (instead of just France and Spain) in April for everyone will be amazing! Unfortunately I won't be going on that one, but I think the parents are arriving so that's just as good!! But to close; I definitely hold many fantastic memories of this trip. Hope you enjoyed following me along on it!
