Although Dūkštos is in collective consciousness of Lithuanians probably most famous by its oak forest. Ruta drew my attention to pointers by the road and told me it was worth taking a hike through Dūkštos oak woods. For a moment we were even tempted to abandon our original plan about Kernavė and substitute it on the spot with a walk through nature. But darkness in those parts falls way too early so we left that for another day. There is allegedly a marked walking path through the forest with a number of sculptures along the way, representing characters from Lithuanian legends and mythology.
It was something worth keeping in mind.
