Gerald:
Well what a wonderful flight. In the end, we were given seats on the earlier flight out of Calgary, and the plane was only about 75% full. Also, our upgrades cleared, and we got to sit at the 'front of the bus'! What a treat. A glass of champagne before take off, large seats which recline comfortably, and personal video on demand monitors were just a few of the extra treats that we were able to enjoy. (Chris - wish you were with us, we could have had fun with the open bar!)
We arrived at LHR about 25 minutes early. Walking into the terminal, we thought something was up. It wasn't busy at all. When we checked in to get our boarding passes for the flight to Paris, we found out what was amiss. British Airways employees were striking, and all BA flights were cancelled. The flight departure monitors were lit up like Christmas trees, announcing dozens of cancelled BA flights. Thankfully, we are flying British Midland the Paris, so ours is one of a handful of the flights actually leaving from LHR's terminal 1 this afternoon.
