The ferry was rocky due to the weather, and unfortunately delayed due to debris in the engine (and whatever Chad says in He Said, it was NOT because there was a woman captain!). Nonetheless, this made our transfer at Victoria to the second ferry over to Vancouver a bit more difficult. We had time to find the tourist information center, see some beautiful plush green landscapes of Victoria, and eyeball The Empress Hotel before catching a hybrid cab to make the second ferry. We made it in time, grabbed some snacks for the ride and again, enjoyed the views. Unfortunately, no whales to speak of, but here, I thought was a utopia, mountains AND water. So many bayside communities we passed with homes right on the water. Again, deep green landscapes despite the rain and fog. No, I didn't mind the ferry ride at all.

The next ride was BC Ferries, and after having a nice conversation with an engaging student at U Vic about some of the Olympic controversy surrounding the removal of Vancouver’s homeless population, we boarded the ship with hundreds of other U Vic students on the way home for the weekend and enjoyed the remarkable ride to Vancouver. The islands were beautiful, and the homes that gripped the sides of the islands were spectacular. The only disappointment was the lack of a beer vendor because a nice Canadian lager would have been perfect. The excitement of Vancouver and Opening Ceremonies was building…
