We broke camp and left Louisiana just before 8am. We followed Siri's directions, but compared them against this old fashioned Garmin thing (it's so 2001) and the red line that Sherry drew on the trusty paper atlas. Since I'm the navigator, I got to pick the route!
The drive flew by without any issues until the last 133 miles into New Mexico. That was the longest 133 miles EVER. We thought for sure we were in some kind of black hole or on an alien treadmill or something.
The coolest thing that we saw today was the wind turbine farm in Sweetwater, Texas. Y'all know that hippy me went nuts over this! I was like a kid at Christmas! I want one in my backyard and almost have brainiac Sherry talked into building me one. We also saw a ton of Nopal cactus, but since I have these in my yard and the fruit wasn't ripe, it paled in comparison to the wind turbines
The funniest thing that happened today was this.... Me: "Oh...look at the Shetland ponies!" Sherry: "Ummm, those are goats, Cyndi." Sherry and me...hysterical laughter! (Hey, they were far away!) 5 miles down the road, Booker says, "Where? I don't see them!" More hysterical laughter! COINCIDENTALLY, about 10 miles after that we DID see Shetland ponies, so you be the judge! It's conceivable that they could have been little ponies and not goats that I saw...I mean, what are the chances? Maybe I was having a premonition. Anyway, after 13 hours on the road apparently goats start looking like little ponies.
The strangest thing that happened today was when we came upon a family of deer standing in the middle of the road out in the middle of nowhere. We were like ,"umm what's that ahead?" There were 4 or 5 of them. Sherry's eagle eye spotted them first and I was able to snap a few pictures between Booker squealing "Oh my gosh, look at the deer!" and making sure there were no stragglers left behind for Sherry to hit.
Ok day 3 over. Thanks for stopping by, we're having a blast, y'all!
