We left North Padre Island and drove through Beeville TX.  Beeville was one of the places I was stationed while in the Navy.  The base is now a prison (kinda was when I was there as I recall!  Just kidding!!)  The town is now much larger and nicer than I recall; looks like a nice place to live.  We continued on to New Braunfels and got a site in Hill Country RV.  The park was OK, but did have a really nice laundry.  We stayed here for 5 days.  We took the trailer on Wednesday to the near-by Camping World where we bought 4 new trailer tires.  The tires we bought are probably the best tires available for our trailer.  Hopefully, these tires will last longer, and hopefully we will slow down on our mileage.  Somehow, we managed to put 20,000 miles on the truck and trailer in 6 months!  I think we are finally getting into the idea of selecting a location and staying for a week or more.  While in New Braunfels we took a  day trip to San Antonio and went to the river walk.  The weather was very windy and cold but we did manage to walk around some.

We moved on Saturday Jan. 22 on the way to Shreveport and stopped in Buffalo TX for the night.  This place was a pit, but was OK for the evening.

Sunday we arrived in Shreveport and stayed through Saturday Jan. 29th at Tall Pines RV park.  We really enjoyed Shreveport and got some good southern food.  We had Gumbo and etouffee a hole in the wall restaurant called Becca's and another evening we had catfish and hush puppies at a local eatery called Jan's.  We checked out the local casinos, went to the Louisiana State Museum (not great, but free!) and went to an amazing art museum called R. W. Norton Art Gallery.  This museum is also free and has many works by Remington and Russell.  We spent hours in this place.  It was terrific!  Check it out at  http://www.rwnaf.org/

Sunday Jan. 30th we moved on to Marksville, LA and stayed at Paragon Casino Resort.  This RV park at the casino has very nice sites and the rates for full hook-ups was $17 per day.  We stayed here through Sunday Feb 6th.

Monday we moved on to the Baton Rouge area and got a site in lakeside RV park in Livingston, LA.  We will be here through Sunday Feb 13th.  The weather continues to be cold and windy, but not nearly as bad as in some parts of the country,  We got the truck serviced here ( 90,000 miles) and have been out looking at plantations.  Tomorrow we will be going into New Orleans.

sorry for the catch-up blog.  I'll post another soon with some photos.

Wes on

I hope you took a moment to remember my ol buddy The Kingfish while you were down there. He probably paved the roads you're driving on! We'll be down in New Orleans this May for Alexis' wedding. Let us know what we should do/see.
