Today was another Sea Day headed back to Sydney to start the New Zealand portion of the cruise.  Asher woke up around 5:30am so I didn’t get much “me” time this morning. He wanted breakfast (which wouldn’t be delivered until 7) and he wanted to go somewhere.  I finally got him settled down and watching a movie.  Breakfast came; Fruit loops, banana, and juice for Asher and Muesli, melon, fresh squeezed orange juice, and coffee for me.

At nine he went to kids camp and I worked a while.  Tis the time of year for insurance audits for the company I work for.  I also walked around the ship for a bit.  The Volendam has some really unusual art, and it is an evolving project.  One of the wall hangings is a Maori cloak made of bird feathers enclosed in glass.

At 11:30 I picked up Asher and we headed to the Lido Deck for lunch.  Holland America outdoes other lines I have been on for personal service.  You are constantly called by name and the staff seems to be genuinely interested in whether or not you are enjoying your trip.

After lunch we go back to the cabin and take a nap.  We get up around 2:30 and Asher wants to go back to kids camp.  We find them outside playing on the sports deck.  The day is overcast and very comfortable to be out in.  As we approach the group I see that Asher has worked his charm.  It is all older kids and two boys immediately begin arguing about who will get Asher on their team.  He gets along well with others and is a good team member.  Asher has consistently been the youngest one in the group on this trip but he has held his own.  I realized today the girl he played with in Fiji is 6 years old.  Asher is slightly bigger than she is.

I picked him up at 4 and we get ready for formal night dinner.  We took a few photos and then had a nice dinner.  Asher had Shrimp cocktail, seafood soup and lobster tails.  I had escargot, seafood soup and surf and turf.  It was all good.  We had desert and then Asher put on pajamas to go back to kids camp for movie night.  I read for a while and worked on photos and my blog.

We have one more sea day and then Sydney.  I can’t decide if we should go to Manly when we get to Sydney or just check out the rocks area and the harbor bridge.  It will be nice not to have to pack up tomorrow.
