Where I stayed
Steve and I were up at 6am having showers and getting coffee. Breakfast was missed as there just wasn't time or inclination for it.
As soon as they left to set up at the park, Sarah started on my hair and make-up. I have an aweful lot of hair, and it took a little longer than we planned. Brides are supposed to be late, though, so I wasn't worried. And we were in constant contact with the group at the park because they were calling us every 15 minutes or so. My mom said they were panicking more than I was!
We finally got in the car and made our way to the beach. I kept up a stream of nervous chatter all the way. The thought of reading the vows in front of everyone was freaking me out! I hadn't practiced at all. That, and the fact that I had the cake sitting on my lap.
My dad, Steve's dad, and Kelvin all met us at the beach and we were in the final steps. My dad went to get changed while they set up the cake and warned everyone to get ready. It seemed to take hours! Finally, the time came to take the walk. Ian led us, followed by Lauren, and my mom, dad, and I brought up the rear. The woman at the spa said to look around at the guests, and I tried that, but as soon as my eyes found Steve, I couldn't look away. My mom had said that he was shaking so bad he couldn't pin the bouteniers on.
When I joined him at the alter and took his hand, I found that she was right. He was shaking so hard I was surprised he was still standing upright! He got a bit choked up when reading his vows, and the celebrant passed Kelvin a tissue to give to him. I on the other hand, got through mine through sheer will power. Even though I came close to panic when I lost my place. I don't know if anyone else noticed.
We did the sand ceremony with the kids, and it was beautiful! I'm so happy we did it, and it will be a great souvenier.
Onto the cake cutting and pictures. We had so much fun playing in the waves and the sand for the pictures and got seriously filthy in the process, but hopefully some awesome shots will come out of it.
When it was finally time to clean up, it was quick and easy, and on to the house for trick-or-treating. It wasn't until trick-or-treating was over that Steve and I realized neither one of us had eatten all day!
On the ride back to the house from the beach I had a moment when it all started to sink in. I'm now Mrs. Thorpe. What a wonderful thought.
