We departed Yosemite this morning after breaking down our tent and visiting a gift shop. We had brunch in Wawona, and started to head south to Los Angeles!
The traffic was relatively alright going down. We did hear about "crazy California drivers", but traffic only got a bit tight where highways intersect.
We were going to meet Allie's mom's cousin, April in Los Angeles, but first we headed to Venice Beach.
The beach was great. We didn't go swimming, but we did walk along the water and headed to the boardwalk. The sand was soft and the sun was warm. The water was cool and crisp with the smell of salt. It made me really want seafood!
As we were walking, Allie somehow stepped on an insect and stung her. Apparently beaches are not very nice to Allie. No matter, after a couple minutes of tending to the sting, we kept trucking along.
We made it to the boardwalk and got a hot meal at Pacific Pier which had amazing burgers! I got a veggie burger with cheese, while Allie got the chicken sandwich. Both were delicious! We were still hungry so we split some French fries and I couldn't resist trying a scoop of their fresh vanilla custard! All of which was delicious! I checked in on Yelp and was pleasantly pleased to see that it had the best reviews and rating compared to any where else on the boardwalk! Score!
After having a good hot meal, we got unlimited ride wristbands to hang out at Pacific Park, the small amusement park on the boardwalk. We rode the swinging ship, the roller coaster, bumper cars, ferris wheel, power tower and the scrambler
We walked back up the boardwalk and people watched longboarders, bikers, joggers, walkers, dogs etc. etc.
We headed to Aprils and settled in. It's so nice to do laundry and actually having a proper shower. Allie and I also got to get a glimpse of the Olympics! We haven't had a chance to see anything. Thankfully, men's swimming and women's gymnastics was on! Which appealed to us. I still can't believe Phelps got silver in the 200 fly. I'm not a big fan of Phelps, but I wanted him to win for America.
Anyhow another full day in Los Angeles tomorrow. We'll see what it has in store. Hopefully our soreness from the Half Dome hike will subside!
Until next time...
