So I've now started touring around New Zealand and first stop was the Bay of Islands up in the North of the North Island. Here we went on an overnight cruise on the Rock (really good company - http://www.rocktheboat.co.nz) and did a spot of fishing (i caught the first fish and won a glass of wine!!), night kayaking, swimming in the sea with the phosphorescence lighting up around up (very surreal), snorkelling, and exploring Robertson Island and looking at the amazing views. I also tried freshly caught mussel lip and bubblegum (the stuff that sticks the mussel to the shell) and sea urchin eggs (apparently a Japanese delicacy if you fancy paying $500 but probably not worth it - interesting and not entirely unpleasant but I wouldn't waste my money!)
I also did a spot of kayaking around Robertson Island which was good fun, and I saw a black shape which moved, which was possibly a sting ray (im hoping it was!)
The cruise was lovely and a great start to the holiday, and the crew were really friendly, learning all our names within a few minutes (there are 14 in my group and there was 30 on the boat in total) and were all rather easy on the eye (we think thats the main criteria in the job spec!).
