Any-who, we left Newark, DE late due to bad weather again, but before leaving we checked out the weather forecast for Gifford Pinchot State Park, where we had our reservations for tonight. Due to the forecast calling for heavy rain, we decided to tour whatever Amish countryside we could before the weather got worse, then make our stop in Lancaster, PA instead.
We started out in light mist, looking for a gas station & some breakfast. 'Fadie-Belle' took us to a spot way out in the middle of almost nowhere, where 'Lo-and-behold' there was a small Strip Mall with gas and a quaint little gourmet restaurant called Saffron. we didn't get any pictures, but the food was fantastic! We left Saffron with our rain gear on (thank goodness) and ran straight into some of the heaviest rain we've experienced so far.....but, it was short lived and turned back into an aggravating drizzle-mist. As we turned more northerly, we headed for a little township called Intercourse (actual name).
We headed there just because of the name, but little did we know we were going to what seemed to be the 'heart' of the Amish community.
Just outside of Intercourse the rain stopped and the Amish community was buzzing with activity.
We spent a couple of hours just driving around and absorbing the Amish way of life and the beauty that surrounds them. This made the trip worthwhile. After coming to our senses from 'eutopia', we punched in our new destination on 'Fadie-Belle' and she steered us to Lancaster where we are staying tonight in the Red Roof Inn
We completed our day, by worshipping our LORD and giving thanks for the safe trip & wonderful sights of his creation, at the SACRED HEART of JESUS CHURCH in downtown Lancaster.
Tomorrow we plan to visit a bit more of the Amish community as well as tour some of Lancaster County's covered bridges. Then we will turn towards Gifford Pinchot State Park, set up camp and head for Gettysburg to sample & learn a bit of Civil War history.
This may be the last update for a few days since we will now be camping and are not certain of available WiFi or internet connections....In case this is so, we hope you have enjoyed reading about our trip......More to come........."No Worries, It's All Good !"
