One fun way to get around San Antonio is to use the Rio Taxi's. You can purchase two kinds of tickets: 1 - a guided tour with a narrative that covers a portion of the River; or 2 - a taxi ticket. One thing you need to understand if you want to take a Rio Taxi ride is how to tell the difference in the boats. The boats for the tour and for the taxi look nearly the same. The way to tell them apart is to look for the Rio Taxi sign on the front and the checkered flags on the back. The tour boats don't have these markings.

Prices vary depending on the service you want and how far you want to go. We just got 24 hour passes on the taxi for the entire length, that was the easiest to understand. If I had to do it over I might consider just doing a single ride at a time since we didn't use the taxi's a whole lot.

We enjoyed our taxi rides very much. The driver's were efficient and personable. They were more than happy to answer our questions.

We were a little disgruntled with the Rio Taxi Company on Sunday morning. We'd planned to go up to the Grotto area which is at the far end of the service, farther than we wanted to walk. When we got down to the landing area we could not see any taxis running. We got the phone number off our ticket and called them. They said they were not running due to "inclement weather". We were very confused by this as we'd not seen any weather. It rained during the night but by morning the rain was gone and only an overcast sky told of any possible weather. We shifted our plans and later we did get one more taxi ride for our money. Another time we hunted and hunted for a taxi but we saw none. We'd walked all the way to the place we wanted to go before seeing even a single taxi. When we called we were told it was shift change and one would be along shortly. We didn't find the service to be as predictable as we would have enjoyed.

Oh well, overall we enjoyed the taxis and they make for great photos!
