Where I stayed
Jon's House in Myrtle Beach, SC
Hotel in Charleston, WV
Saturday morning I left ECHO (North Fort Myers) around 7:30am. It was going to be my longest day of driving and since I was going to be visiting a friend in Myrtle Beach, I planned my arrival so that we would have time to hang out later in the day. Navigation went pretty smooth – only one minor setback when I chose the incorrect highway at a fork in the road…Oops! Thankfully, my keen sense of direction told me to check the map soon after the decision was made. Twelve hours after my takeoff from Fort Myers, I arrived in Myrtle Beach, SC – happy to be done driving. We went for dinner and then to a dueling piano bar for a bit. Once it was bed time, I was out like a light.
As I traveled though South Carolina on Sunday I caught a whiff of a familiar perfume in the air… I wasn't able to name it until I zoomed out from my focus on the road and noticed the pine trees that lined the road way
Monday morning I traveled to Huntington, WV to have breakfast with a new friend. Sean lives there, one of the students that stayed on the farm for an extra week. We caught up at a Mexican/pancake place called Flapjacks Tenampa – where you can order either type of food at any time of day. Since it was 9:30am, I opted for a pecan flapjack and a scrambled egg but the enchiladas were tempting. As I continued north the landscape soon morphed from hills and forest to flat corn fields; I was traveling through Ohio and Indiana again… The "Pure Michigan" sign proudly displayed across the border into this great state was a site for sore eyes: I would soon be done driving!
Monday night’s small group was meeting at its regular time and although I’d be a little late, I was really looking forward to catching up with everyone. A smile crept on my face as I got off the highway; the license plate of the car ahead was from Florida.
My usual routine is to walk on in after ringing the doorbell twice (it’s a great doorbell) but the door was locked… I heard scurrying and then, as the door opened, a big “SURPRISE”
I arrived home later than expected, but my mom had stayed awake for my homecoming. We chatted for a bit but soon found ourselves needing sleep.
In the days since my arrival, life has filled up quickly and yet moved along at a peacefully simple pace. My sister and I had a waffle breakfast get together (with Michigan maple syrup!) which once again proved that we never run out of things to talk about.
After a friend asked how the packing was going, I realized that there’s only a week and a half left now. So, I’ve begun sorting through the piles that I had “staged” for packing and refreshed my memory for what I might still need to get… there’s not much, thank goodness.
Also, there have been a couple realizations that crept upCrazy Love” though. It’s that love which brings me to another realization: my sense of peace about this trip. During a meeting I was asked if I was scared. My answer? Not at all. I trust that this is exactly what I am supposed to be doing. God’s eye is on the sparrow and it will be on me also, giving me the direction that I need. If any of you have read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, you might understand that I am “fulfilling my personal legend” but for everyone else, I am simply trying to follow the divine plans for my life. There will be struggles but those will turn into building blocks for other moments in life so getting worked up about them now will be of no benefit. Each day is an adventure.
(Please remind me to read this in a couple months when I am freaking out because of a silly struggle).
Much love to you all.
Spiritual connectedness in this time of transition, effective time management for the nine days I have left in Michigan, an articulate tongue when speaking of this venture.
Updates: My dad did finally stop at a doctor – about a week after the motorcycle accident. Apparently everything is fine; he just needs to keep resting up so his body can heal. Pain killers were issued and are helping him with that :)
