I really wanted to visit the Lavra caves (or catacombs) today: some monks had carved their cells in the rock, only living a small opening to allow air, food and water to pass.  Once a week  caretaker would leave holy water and the host in front of the cave. If they were left untouched it meant the monk was dead and he would be embalmed and burried in his cell.
But I had to go down this very  steep, dark and narow staircase and as I was going down I started to feel terrifed. he idea of mummified monks became much less attractive. I came to the conclusion that I didn t have to face my fears today and  quickly climbed back up.
But I visited one of the churches, the museum of Theatre and Music ( pity it was just in russian, but it was fun looking at the pictures), and a museum of ethnography. And just walking around the grounds took me a few hours. And at least I did not buy a scarf for nothing, for in ukraine women still need to cover their heads when they enter a church.
