The Choir began the performance section of the tour today at St Hedwig's Cathedral. What a beautiful church. It was an incredible mixture of clean stone, glass and wood, open and airy, yet warm and welcoming. The Choir was wonderful in this space and it seemed like they we loved by the locals.

I really liked the Cathedral priest, he seemed very happy to have the choir at the Mass. All the kids and parents were quite tired but they were performing very well. Then came the longest homily I had ever heard. I mean REALLY long and in German!

Then it was bus tours for the remainder of the day. All of the shopping areas were closed and the weather was not really conducive to sight seeing. Even so, I enjoyed soaking up the history from our excellent local tour guide who danced on the Berlin wall with his 4 year old daughter in 1989.

The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe was intriguing,  It consists of 4.7 acres covered with 2,711 concrete slabs or "stelae", arranged in a grid pattern on a sloping field. According to Eisenman's project text, the stelae are designed to produce an uneasy, confusing atmosphere, and the whole sculpture aims to represent a supposedly ordered system that has lost touch with human reason.

We finished off the day with another Choir performance at the Berliner Dom or another concert and an even LONGER sermon! We made it through, took a few quick photos and made for the hotel.
