As planned we left Fort Wayne promptly at 1:00, uh make that 2:00 pm after Tom returned home from work.  We did some final securing of provisions and headed to Indianapolis to pick up our RV.

The plan was to drop niece Lauren and the kids off at the Indianapolis Zoo, while Tish and Tom went to pick up the RV.  We arrived at the zoo as planned at 3:00, ummm make that 4:00pm to find that the Zoo was closing at 5pm.  Needless to say that didn’t exactly work with our 2 hour RV orientation schedule.  Lauren, being the extremely helpful person she is, said “No problem, there are some nice picnic table just outside the Zoo and when it closes, the kids and I will sit over there and read until you come back”.  OK, that sounded reasonable, I mean what could go wrong with an extremely well thought out plan like that?

RV Pick-Up:  This topic deserves it’s own paragraph.  Tish and I drive to Greenwood to meet Ed the RV Guy.  Our GPS directs us to the location and we pull into the parking lot of a large building.  The first two doors we come to are not our destination.  We start looking around and realize that the "office" for the RV "dealer" is not in the large building at all, but in a small "hut", "shack", "trailer" in the parking lot at the back of the building.  Umm...ok, the RV we were renting was easily twice the size of the RV dealer's office.  Is there something wrong with this picture?  Needless to say, Ed the RV Guy was "interesting", but very nice.  The RV was (is) awesome.  It's 31 feet, not too big, with only 13,000 miles on it and impeccably clean.  We get oriented.  Yes, it did take about 2 hours....Ed was a bit on the chatty side, and who could blame him after being cooped up his "office".  As we are finishing up, we get a call from Lauren...."Are you coming back soon?  The sky is getting really dark here and it's starting to thunder and lightning.
We finish as fast as we can and abandon the plan to load the RV.  We will come back after we have rescued the abandon children.  As we drive back to central Indy we see that the sky is black,. really black accentuated by jagged bolts of lightning, and it is raining very hard at this point.  We finally make it to the Zoo feeling like the worst parents in the world.  The kids and Lauren are huddled under a awning, and just as Tish is going to go up to get them with an umbrella, they make a break for the van and get absolutely soaked!

We finally loaded the RV after waiting out the rain and got on our way.  It was late, so Tish found a KOA campground that sounded decent.  The place in Casey was fine and we all slept well that night.  On to St. Louis tomorrow!
