Of all places this was the last place (well maybe the Utah parks) I would have thought I would see a bear up close and personal. Video of the black bear cub at the bottom. I kept circling around him and got all kinds of good pictures like he was posing for me (more like sniffing me).. but little did I know until afterwards that my camera wasn't even working.. grrrrrr!

Mesa Verde is one of the few National Parks that gained it's status because of it's anthropological features versus natural features. The Puebloan Indians build these cliff dwellings around 1200 AD, and they were really kind of luxury homes for them.

I definitely didn't do this park justice (read: excuse to come back).. I only saw only one, albeit the best preserved one, of hundreds of cliff dwellings. Really need to take a guided tour to see how and why the Puebloans built each of the cliff dwellings.
