Not much too say here to be honest, we spent a total of 2 nights and had a full day to scope the place out AKA get stuff sorted. Primarily my problematic left ear, scruffy hair and essential comfort food & drink for our pretty isolated 3 week jaunt to Aitutaki in the Cooks
Since we both dived in Indonesia something has seemed to have happened to my left ear, so I took the chance to get it properly checked out in Auckland as everywhere else we have been recently wasn't too well know for ear specialists.
I shouldn't have bothered really as the Doc told me what I already knew and sadly didn't provide an answer for the problem, which is a bit worrying. Instead it cost a cool $120 NZD for the consultation and nasal spray prescriptions which 3 weeks later don't seem to have really done anything. It's not infected, It doesn't hurt, it isn't blocked (this I already knew myself) but I've lost some kind of hearing capability and if I'm in a noisy place (which doesn't bode well for future Plex parties) then it's a proper nightmare to hear properly on that side. It's a strange one and as soon as I land in the UK if it hasn't sorted itself, out then a specialist I shall go see.
Other than my doctor visit we just mooched about Auckand, the harbour and stocked up on food stuffs we knew would be difficult or stupidly expensive to get on the Cook Islands, so our first supermarket shop in over 6 months ensued. Had my first proper pint of Guiness in a while in an Irish pub, we ate a great brekkie in a gastro cafe of sorts, got my haircut for the first time since the Vietnam barber chopped it all off to within a couple of inches back in Hoi An and Sofie spent most of the time marvelling at the glamourously dressed people of Auckland wishing she had some new clothes instead of her well worn in traveller look.
Gotta mention our hostel here too, what a funny place
Oh and one more mad thing happened right when we checked out. Sofie recognised this guy who we last saw in Nepal as he came down the trail with us for part of it. It was the crazy guy who trekked ABC & the circuit in Addidas shell toes and who also followed me and our guide through a river crossing only to fall straight in it! And here he was, in New Zealand after having visited Australia and the US. Not too much time to reminisce with him as we got a plane to catch! Small world, have a good trip etc etc..
Short and sweet this one...
