So we've finally made it through 2009 and quite frankly we are both so very happy to see that year disappear finally and a new decade come rolling in. 2010 couldn't get much worse than 2009 was for many people, so here's to all having a good coming year etc.
Anyway, we had better fill you all in in what we have been doing since Ko Tao I guess so here goes.
We took a catamaran from Tao to Pha Ngan on the 29th Dec, it's a huge steaming jungle island that some of you would best know it for it's constant assault of hedonism, normally of the flouro and bucket kind. Decided to go a little upmarket for 5 days over the new year and stay here: http://www.phangansunset.com before we moved on to another part of the island in the new year
Ao Chao Phao
Sunset Cove really is a seriously lush place and i gotta say that I'm very happy we diddn't wake up in the motorway pile-up that is Haad Rin on the opposite end of the island come Jan 1st.
The crime scene of the Full Moon New Years mash-up if you will. Words can't really do this rave justice but the music for me was simply diabolical throughout, needless to say we had a very crazy night regardless which involved a lot of drink and stupid behaviour of varying levels..I think the pictures speak for themselves really..
Met up with a few sound Glaswegians who were into the same music scene as us back in the UK and a couple of London based girls, so spent much of our time hanging out with them. As our boutique resort was so sweet and everything was on hand, we didn't really move from there much bar going to Haad Salad and Haad Yao for dinner a couple of evenings. So apart from Full Moon, our first 5 days on the island were spent drinking, recovering, drinking, basking in the sun and swimming. Hard life huh? Did I ask how the UK was at all?
Reluctantly we left on the 3rd Jan for Bottlebeach, i say reluctantly because Ao Chao Phao was a very relaxing place to be but the next destination would certainly be cheaper for a room and a different vibe so all good
Cabbed it down to the capital Thong Sala and took another taxi to the north of the island. It's a very beautiful bay, extremely remote and therefore hard to reach via road (AKA dirt track) from anywhere else on the island. Perfect.
And here we are 10 days later, still on Bottlebeach and staying at the wonderfully homey Smile Bungalows, this place comes highly recommended if you want to be amongst good people and staff who treat you like an immediate member of their family. We feel right at home here.
Went to a Half Moon party a few days back in the jungle, again more drunkenness, lunacy of varying degrees and terrible terrible music. Apart from that we just bedded down here and have taken it very easy before we shift to Bangkok to meet Dexorcist and Bass Junkie (ut-oh!) on the 25th Jan.
Ah nearly forgot! I went diving to Chumphon Pinnacle a couple of days ago (finally made it to this world class dive site after the total disappointment of my diving experience on Ko Tao over Xmas and not diving there, even though it closer to Tao than Pha Ngan by about 50 kms!) - WOW is all I can say, it was everything i had hoped it would be and more
Gonna sign off now, if there is anything more notable to report I will add some more stuff later on. I've also sorted out the videos now by encoding into MP4 and upping to my Youtube channel as the HD versions were taking a silly amount of time to get up on here, the link is below this post, check the recently added section for motorbike drive downs, Maoist demos, ABC footage and lots of other stuff we've been up too. More vids to add later on!
Ao Nai Wok
Landed here today it's alittle further down from where we started a few week back at Chao Phao, not much to report other than a nice sunset and a red curry with not much sauce for my rice sadly..
