Anyway I digress, so having heard about these giants of the natural world we decided to take our van into the heart of the woods, and it didn't take long for us to realise why they give so many column inches towards promoting them. They are something special that we just don't have in the UK, I've seen baobab trees in Africa and always thought they would be the biggest I'd see in my life, I was wrong.
The drive took us to our first trail through redwoods, our first real taste of a world of giants. I had heard about these giant trees but had no real comprehension of how big they truly were, that changed quickly. We arrived at Stout Memorial Grove in the middle of the Howland Hill Scenic route and began to explore.
In order to get a real appreciation of the size of the trees we have used a simple method, take something you know the size of, in this case Zoe and put it next to something you don't know the size of, a giant sequoia.
