Wow what an amazing place Hearst Castle was to visit, the building of the castle started in 1919 to 1947, taking almost 30 years to complete!! William Hearst worked together with a woman Julia Morgan (who was the first woman architect of her time) to build the castle.

Hearst Castle featured 56 bedrooms, 61 bathrooms, 19 sitting rooms, 127 acres of gardens, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, a movie theater, an airfield, and the world's largest private zoo. Zebras and other exotic animals still roam the grounds.

They said William Hearst always had in mind that it would one day be a museum for future generations to enjoy, he had historical collections of ceilings, paintings, rugs, statues and ornaments from all over Europe that he had collected over the years in his castle. But before it was donated to the state of California as a historical park, William Hearst loved to enertain all the rich and famous here such as Charlie Chaplan, the Marx Brothers, Bob Hope and Winston Churchill to name a few.

The castle is so big that they have to run 3 seperate tours, because there is no way you can see the whole thing in a couple of hours. We left feeling priveliged to be able to have seen this place.

On our way out, driving up the coast we were able to see more seals on the beach, different from the ones we had seen in Argentina, but still amazing to watch. This should be a pretty clear indicator of what the weather is really like on the coast of California!! Friggen cold. It was the beggining of summer and it was freezing here, our visions of sunny California and the beaches have been shattered... ha ha.
