Before we tell you about Ayers Rock, we wanted to give you an update on how our first experience of youth hosteling went. Well it was going pretty well, we were settling in to the backpacker way of life until 3am on the second night when the crazy woman opposite to us started arguing with herself! This went on for about an hour (she was really cross with someone called Catherine, whoever she was!). At 8am she started again, the guy next door to us who was from Manchester started banging on her door telling her to shut up and calling her a crazy woman, when this did not work he decided to change his approach and told her that he wanted to help her and that he thought she should go to hospital to get professional help! Thank god we were going out for the day and only had one more night to go!

So we arrived in Ayers Rock on Tuesday, we landed in the middle of the afternoon and the temperature was 39 degrees in the shade! So it was straight to our room to cool down under the air conditioning!!! After much deliberation (and believe me we must know every detail of every trip they do to Ayers Rock) we decided to do the Sunset tour (the sunrise tour picks you up at 4.40am so it wasn't really a difficult decision!).

When we were planning our trip we couldn't decided whether to come to Ayers Rock, after all it is only a mistaken we were! For those of you who have been you will know what we are talking about, this thing is massive, it will take you 3 hours to walk around it and 2 and a half hours to climb it! How you climbed it Chappers we will never know, its nearly at a 90 degree angle, luckily for us it was closed as it was too hot! Maybe next time (yeh right!).

We also opted out of the walk around it, come on it was 45 degrees the day of our trip! We went for the half day tour that gave you an insight into Aboriginal life and took you to the waterholes where the Aborganies get their drinking water from (one of the pictures shows the kids swimming in it). After all that we watched the sun setting over Ayers Rock with a glass of wine, it came cloudy just in time for this which is just typical luck for us two, but the sun managed to peak through and we got some good pictures, we even saw a rainbow (or that might have been too many glasses of wine!).

After all that we went back to the hotel for our tea and yes it was another BBQ, (I think Daniel looks a bit more professional than you did Damo!) and as for the flies that you have not shut up about.........what flies??????

Thursday came and it was time for us to head to Cairns (or Cannes as Daniel keeps calling it!). We had to do this via Sydney (don't ask), we landed in Sydney and had to wait about 3 hours for our connecting flight, Claire was feeling abit unwell so decided to have a snooze and left Daniel to his own devices (in other words for him to play on his PSP) and also left him with the responsibility of monitoring the screen to see when we would be boarding our flight.

BIG BIG BIG mistake!!! Claire wakes up at 7.40pm (our flight is at 7.45pm) and turns to Daniel as if to say why the HELL are we still sat here???? Daniel rushes to the screen to check the status of our flight....FINAL have never seen two people run so fast across Sydney airport, we got to our gate to be greeted by a very disapproving Qantas employee, we were rushed on the plane (Helen I didn't even have chance to touch the outside of it for good luck) and had taken off before we had even fastened our seatbelts!!! Mum, Damian we know what you are thinking right now but don't worry, this was a one off....honest!

Daniel would like to say in his defense that FIFA 07 football game on the PSP is really engrossing and that could have happened to anyone!!!!
