Welcome Team:
This is my very first entry and I am not quite sure what to write. For some of you it has been a while since we've spoken so I guess I should start with a recap. I graduated last December, and for the past 6 months I been busy helping my mom with her catering business. In about 2 weeks I will leave for Jamaica to serve as a community health advisor with the Peace Corps. I just got through booking my plane ticket. I'm very excited among all other emotions.
I leave Houston for Miami July 1 to take part in P.C. training and then me and the other volunteers depart from Miami to Jamaica July 3. Here are some questions that people have asked me.
1. Where will you live? In Jamaica we will go through additional training. During the 8 weeks of training volunteers usually live with families to get them introduced to Jamaican culture. After training I will be assigned a place....I'll keep you posted.
2. Will we be able to keep in contact with you? You can leave me messages on this site or/and I will still keep my email address active so I can be reached there. I may also purchase a cell phone in Jamaica. Once I'm settled I'll be able to give out my mailing address.
3. What are your job duties? Well so far I know that I will be responsible for providing my community with information on health issues including SIDS, HIV, nutrition....I'll keep you posted.
4. What will you wear? Work attire is professional, collared shirts, pants, skirts...
During our free time we were advised to dress appropriately as not to draw attention to ourselves or insult the locals.
Okay so I guess that's it for now. I haven't yet started packing. How do you pack for 2 years? Well we were advised not to overdo it. Most everything we need we can purchase in Jamaica. I only plan on taking with me one luggage and a carry on. At least that's the plan. Most everyone knows that I am bad at packing and wait until the last minute but I have learned from bad, past mistakes so I'll start a week ahead. At least that's the plan.....I'll keep you posted.

now that im back in houston it kinda really sucks that i wasnt there to see you go. oh well...j/k haha. missin you already sis. two years can't come fast enough.
