Carol has awakened and off to breakfast. I decided to skip it this morning and eat just before we leave for our tour at noon. One can have too much of a good thing! We hit rough waters last night but had been warned, and after trying to sleep both of us took a sleeping pill and quickly in slumberland. Today's tour will be to Corfu, Greece which is an island off the western side of the Greek mainland, and is northernmost of the 6 Ionian Islands. Nero, Cicero, Cato and Casanova have been visitors to this enchanting island. In Greek literature this is the site where Ulysses was shipwrecked and rescued by Princess Nausicaa. We are back at just after 5 from our tour and our dinner reservation is at 6:30 in Toscana. Plenty of time-We tried to change it to later but couldn't, so will miss some entertainment we had wanted to see. The tour was great, in a large bus and more of the narrow switchback roads-they do not splurge on road building around here-they are mostly like wide paved or cobblestoned paths! We walked a lot but saw much- and old fortress from the 14th century, now used for concerts, Old town, and of course they always give us plenty of time in the shopping areas. We sampled a kumquat candy and it was very good- Carol bought some. Back on the bus to the other side of the island to an old Greek Monastery-which also seemed to be a cat refuge-they were everywhere. The views were spectacular and the seas clear blue and you can see the rocks in the bottom. This is a very desirable tourist spot in the summers. The end of the tour and they let us off a long block away so walked some more, and into our rooms to relax a bit, then get dress for our dinner tonight. All prettied up and off to Toscana for our last 5 star dinner. It was great and we sat with 2 BC gals, Linda and Dale, we had met the first day and a couple, Dennis and Joyce, from Calif then Hawaii and now Eugene. I had a large appetizer bowl of calamari that was cooked to perfection!, then veal with some fantastic lemon sauce, some spinach and potatoes, and later a fantastically presented chocolate concoction! We talked till late, then Dennis walked with us to the main stairway and took a picture of us. After that we headed for the Liars Club which we had missed all but the last question, but still fun. Sat with Joyce and Phil to enjoy the internationally acclaimed Concert Pianist Liana Forest, from Russia, playing Chopin and others. She was fantastic and her fingers moved like ballet dancers-just a great program. Carol says 'The fine dinner was food for the body but more importantly, the pianist provided music for the soul'. Back in the room ready to retire and tonight we get that hour back that we lost last night by changing our clocks again.
