Happy New Year to all! It's about 9pm here and we're about to play musical chairs. We're celebrating NYE family style. My entry today is at risk of focussing entirely on foodie delights but as this blog is supposed to be a record of our holiday, for the whole family to look back on, I thought I'd get Alexandra to list the highlights of her time here:
1. Getting ready for the New Year and all the excitement (I'm going to toot my horn) Toooooot!
2. Going into Thonon today. I liked it because we ate some yummy pastries and got to go on a ride. The people were friendly and the sun was shining. It was nice to drive along the blue lake.
3. Going for a nice walk through the forrest with Mama. It was nice. I liked seeing the old statue of Mary at the crossroad. When an old lady said 'Bonjour' to me, I remembered to say 'Bonjour' back.
4. Enjoying Tata's yummy pizza for dinner. And the Camembert. It's my favourite.

Saskia likes her nice warm bed and looking out the window at the mountains. She tried escargot this evening but didn't think much of it (they were a little on the salty side). She's still asking about when we are going to see Baby Jesus and Mary and Joseph, or possibly the Queen and the Disneyland princesses.

We may go skiing tomorrow, or drive into Montreux. It's supposed to snow, but may also be windy. We are all very much enjoying taking it very very easy, going for slow walks and short drives into the local towns to explore the farmers markets, or to just take a stroll. It's living by the moment and we all seem to be loving it.

There's an old golden full moon sitting directly opposite us over the lake. If Beethoven's moonlight sonata was playing I'd be in tears (of joy). Instead we've been listening to Black Eyed Peas, and "I've got a feeling" is coming up. It's time to rock in the New Year. Saskia will be leading the Team Rackers' conga line.

Happy New Year to all. Wishing you all love, peace and happiness in 2013.

Leonie on

A very appropriate and fun / memorable NYE - you'll not forget this NYE ever! Pizza looks nice, really nice! V well done Daniel! For us we stayed in this year but I dropped the kids off with their Godfather ( who took them into the city fireworks last year) in Fitzroy Street for pizza at toppolinos which was closed so they went on to Leo's for pizza then Acland street for gelatis - home in time ( picked them up ) - to light sparklers, wear glow bracelets, eat potato chips and crack open some champagne ( non alcoholic for the kids - not too keen on either!!) then coffees and love cake and rich cake from Ricks Mum ( traditional Sri Lankan cakes - one very dense with fruit and liqueur the other made from semolina and cashew nuts and a concoction of sweet spices ( Dutch influences ) . Prior to this all the Hart family went over to Ricks mums - Nana and Grandpa for a traditional curry lunch ( string hoppers curries sambols lentils and soup as well as yellow / burianyi style rice ) the girls made the sweets - cheesecake pavlova and lemon slice ( Brittany's pavlova to die for!) so by NYE night we were already full up with food! Had fun watching on TV the fireworks from Melbourne city and stayed up till about 2 am reminiscing and eating some more and drinking some more!
Can't quite believe we're into the new year! OK - no stress!!! Rome wasn't built in a day I always self- talk re.... My new class intake - one step, one day at a time!
HNY to you all xxxx
